The 87th Regular Session of the Texas Legislature adjourned on Monday, May 31.

Over the course of the 140-day legislative session:

  • 6,927 bills were filed;
  • 1,073 bills were passed;
  • 221 joint resolutions were filed; and
  • 8 joint resolutions were passed.

In comparison to the 86th legislative session held two years ago,

  • 7,324 bills were filed;
  • 1,429 bills were passed;
  • 56 bills were vetoed
  • 217 joint resolutions were filed; and
  • 10 joint resolutions were passed.

The Governor has 20 days to veto legislation, making Sunday, June 20 the last day Governor Abbott can take action on bills passed during the 87th legislative session. Check back in a few weeks to see what bills of interest were signed into law and how they might impact you.
